Do you need to inspect large-scale parts? Are you worried about low efficiency and poor measurement results? This case will share how a 3D scanner can help inspect large-scale subways.
Here are the highlights we would like to share with you
• Built-in Photogrammetry
• Infrared large-area scanning
• Accuracy up to 0.020 mm
• Instant and intuitive report
The inspection aims to ensure that a manufactured part meets a defined set of quality criteria or customer requirements. Manufacturers check and test parts by comparing them with original CAD models to determine whether a part conforms to the standards and specifications.
The inspection requirements for subway are becoming higher to ensure passengers’ safe traveling. Subways are large and feature curved surfaces.
When they are inspected with traditional methods, the process is usually time-consuming and the measurement results are of low quality. The introduction of 3D scanning can help to ease these pain points.
“We used to measure our parts manually. The measurement results are not good enough. The 3D scanner we use has built-in photogrammetry for measuring large-scale parts. It is portable and easy to use. I am impressed by its high accuracy, high efficiency, and intuitive reports.”
3D Inspection for Subway Car Body
The customer in this case needs a 3D scanner to collect 3D data on the subway car body. The company aims to measure the subway’s dimensions, such as its whole length and the length and width of doors and windows.
The measurement results are used to inspect whether the mounting holes in the windows and doors conform to the standard and to check whether they can be installed successfully.
Besides, the data can be stored and serve as a data basis for regular inspection and maintenance. After a user session, the subway may undergo variations that need to be inspected to check whether there are deformations or errors to ensure safe operation.
After 3D scanning the subway car body, engineers obtained the 3D data and compared them to the original model to check the deformation.
Thanks to the 3D software ScanViewer that goes with KSCAN-Magic, the manufacturer got an accurate and intuitive inspection report to guide the maintenance.
