On Oct.12, 2021, Scantech was honoured that we sponsored self-developed 3D scanners at the Consulate Engagement Event signalling the one-year countdown to the 46th WorldSkills 2022.
The biennial vocational contest will see thousands of young people from the global community compete in 63 skill competitions.
With our portable and handheld 3D scanner SIMSCAN, we help young competitors to create precise 3D models for additive manufacturing to promote the competition and the concept of “Master Skills, Change the World”.
As the world’s first contest to show vocational skills, WorldSkills is a global center for the exhibition of skills, a world platform for cooperation and exchange of skills development.
Chris Humphries, president of WorldSkills International, said in a video speech that the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai will be a chance to further raise the global standards of skills and the spirit of young people.
A tour in WorldSkills additive manufacturing training base
There were about 40 consulate representatives in Shanghai from 30 countries visited three skilled talent cultivation bases, including Shanghai Technician School.
At the WorldSkills additive manufacturing training base, consulates were briefed with the history of the base and its projects including industrial control and additive manufacturing.
Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is one of the skill competitions in the 46th WorldSkills competition. It is a discipline that integrates computer-aided design, material processing, and moulding technologies.
It can enable complex shapes to be created by building them up layer by layer with printable 3D models.
In the competition, participants will use a 3D scanner and data processing 3D software to create an editable 3D model and print it out as required.
To ensure the feasibility of work, it is required that a 3D scanner be accurate and resistant to dust, base vibration, thermal expansion, etc.
A glimpse into 3D scanning and printing
On the day of Consulate Engagement Event, consulate representatives had a trial of capturing 3D data with our 3D scanner SIMSCAN with the help of a professional player from the national training team of WorldSkills and the staff.
The hand-sized 3D scanner SIMSCAN suits well for on-site 3D scanning, as it is portable and remains unaffected by temperature, humidity, and dust.
With an accuracy of up to 0.020 mm and a scanning rate of 2.02 million MPS, it can capture precise data of both complex and simple geometries in a short time. The point cloud it captured can be converted to a 3D model ready for 3D printing, reverse engineering, and CAD program.
From the picture above, we could find that the astronaut model was vividly represented in a 1:1 sized 3D digital model. Its fixtures and shapes were captured precisely.
With our handheld 3D scanners, competitors can capture geometric features of objects with intricate details easily and quickly. Thanks to the triangulation of 3D scanners, the 3D digital models transformed from physical objects are of high precision.
Scantech can help competitors to scan objects both in small or large scale to create precise and 3D models ready for 3D printing.
We are proud to be among those welcoming young competitors to the bi-annual vocational competition in Shanghai. They represent the best of their peers and their competition will help raise the profile of vocational education and training.
About WorldSkills competition
